The Engineers Committee on Accreditation (ECA)

Background
The Engineers Committee on Accreditation through the Board works together with National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to assess the adequacy and relevance of an engineering program being offered in Universities or other engineering training institutions. They identify those engineering programs that meet the criteria for accreditation. These criteria formulated provides graduates with an education satisfying the academic requirements for registration and professional practice. Accreditation Committee consists of representatives from ERB and UIPE with the purpose to facilitate and operationalize each party’s role in ensuring quality education and Training in Uganda. In that a University, Tertiary Institution or other degree awarding Institution intending to offer a program in engineering shall apply for accreditation with NCHE and ERB/UIPE shall review the engineering Curricula applications for technical evaluation to make recommendations to NCHE and also the Committee spearheads the accreditation evaluation of any related engineering CPD courses for Training in Uganda to be accredited by the Board. 

Purpose

The purpose of accreditation is to ensure that the accredited engineering program satisfies the minimum requirements for registration with the Board and advising the standardization or the engineering professional in Uganda.

Function of the Committee

The main functions of the ECA committee is to Develop guidelines and procedures for assessing institutions offering engineering Programmes, assess academic Programmes, advise, recommend, participate in monitoring and evaluation of any tasks or assignments required by NCHE or requested by ERB and/ or UIPE Council or undertake other tasks or assignments in the ToRs.

Lastly also the Board in operationalizing the CPD Policy and to prioritise the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) of all registered engineering professionals, the ECA committee reviews and assess all CPDs courses applications and recommend to Board for accreditation.

ERB reserves the right to review the list at any time without notice and intending candidates are advised to check with ERB before proceeding for further studies or Training any CPD.
